(second edition, The Law Society, 2020) by Tracey Calvert with Bronwen Still
Regulation and In-House Lawyers is a resource for lawyers working in-house for organisations which are not authorised by the SRA.
This second edition has been updated to reflect the major regulatory changes which the SRA is implementing in Standards and Regulations in November 2019.
These changes are of great significance to in-house lawyers in particular, as restrictions on where solicitors can practice are being relaxed and they will in future be able to provide certain legal services without having to be working in a law firm or a sole practitioner.
It also covers key legislation such as the Money Laundering Regulations 2017, the Criminal Finances Act 2017, the EU General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018, as well as recent Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal decisions.
The book explains the changes and provides practical guidance on regulatory compliance.
Additional material has been added to create a toolkit that will help lawyers to be able to demonstrate compliance in practice through systems, controls and policies, including templates which can be used by practitioners to create compliance manuals.
